Importing financial data from MYOB
Fathom seamlessly and securely integrates with the following versions of MYOB AccountRight for Australia & New Zealand:
- AccountRight 2016.2
- AccountRight 2015.4
- AccountRight Live 2013 and later (Basics, Standard, Plus)
- AccountRight v19 (Enterprise, Premier, Plus & Standard)

Fathom does not support:
- AccountRight Live 2011
- AccountRight Live 2012
- AccountEdge for MAC OS/X
- MYOB Enterprise (EXO)
- MYOB Essentials
Typically, Fathom will integrate with the current version of MYOB, and the three prior versions. In cases where we do not integrate directly, we suggest using Excel to import your data.
Importing from MYOB AccountRight Live Online
To add company data from MYOB AccountRight Live go to 'My Companies > Add a Company > MYOB' and connect to MYOB.
The first time Fathom connects to your MYOB AccountRight Live organisation, you must authorise access. Clicking 'Connect to MYOB' will take you to the MYOB website where you can login. After you login you can then select which MYOB organisation you wish to add to Fathom. You’ll only need to do this once for each MYOB organisation.
At anytime in the future, you can update the data in Fathom by going to the company setup and clicking 'Update from MYOB'. This will synchronize the data in Fathom with the data from MYOB.
Company File Version
Each MYOB AccountRight file has a company file version which initially is the version of MYOB the file was created with. You can see the version by opening your library browser in AccountRight and hovering over the file name. If your AccountRight file is stored online, then MYOB requires it to be no more than three versions behind the most recent version of AccountRight.
If you encounter this issue, you will need to first ensure your AccountRight desktop client is upgraded to the latest version and then open your company file. You will be prompted to upgrade the company file.
To import Job and Category data from MYOB AccountRight Live
Fathom allows you to import job and category data for analysis. You can choose to import jobs and categories during the import process, and you can also import this data for existing companies. Importing from desktop versions of MYOB AccountRight & AccountRight Live
To add company data from a desktop-based MYOB AccountRight file, go to 'My Companies > Add a Company > MYOB' and launch the Fathom Desktop Connector. This will enable you to extract and upload data from your MYOB files (.myo & .myox) – without having to manually key data or export data to excel.
The connector will automatically extract the financial statement data for all periods within the MYOB file. This includes data for the prior, current and future financial years.

AccountRight v19 and earlier
To access earlier AccountRight files Fathom requires the corresponding ODBC driver to be installed on your system.
The connector will automatically detect if you do not have the correct ODBC driver installed. In this case, download and install the ODBC driver that corresponds with your MYOB file.

Note that multiple versions of the ODBC driver can be installed side-by-side if necessary.
If you have the correct version of MYOB installed on another computer, the corresponding ODBC driver is most likely already installed. You could try using the Fathom Desktop Connector from that computer.
If you have a MYOB file that is from an earlier unsupported version of MYOB, you could consider using a later version of MYOB to upgrade the file.
AccountRight Live 2013 and later
AccountRight Live uses a hybrid model where you can choose to store your company file either online (in the cloud) or on the desktop.
If the file is stored on the desktop the Fathom Desktop Connector uses an interface provided by MYOB which should be running on your local computer. This interface is called the ‘MYOB Add-On Connector’. In older versions of Account Right it was referred to as the ‘MYOB API’.
Recent versions of AccountRight Live install the MYOB Add-on Connector automatically. However older versions did not. If you have difficulty connecting there are two ways to check the MYOB Add-On Connector is installed and running correctly.
- If you enter the following address into your web browser you should see a list of your MYOB files: http://localhost:8080/accountright
- If you hover over your system tray in Windows you should see the purple add-on connector icon:

What if I have a really large myob file?
The Fathom Desktop Connector does not upload your entire MYOB file. The connector will simply extract the primary financial statements (ie. the Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheet) from your MYOB file and securely upload this data only.
The MYOB AccountRight Live company version is not supported by the installed MYOB Add-On Connector
To receive this message you will be using the Fathom Desktop Connector, either on your own PC or remotely on a server. You need to ensure that either your PC or the remote server is running a version of the MYOB Add-On connector that is equal or greater to the company file version identified in the error message.

Unable to connect to the MYOB API service. Please ensure the API service is running on your PC.
If you receive this error it means the MYOB Add-On Connector is not installed properly. MYOB provides an article which demonstrates how to install and troubleshoot the MYOB Add-On Connector.
I'm seeing extra periods after importing or the wrong period range
During the import process, Fathom examines all the transactions within the MYOB company to determine the date range to import. If you are seeing extra periods in the future (ie. Jan 2022) it may be due to an errant transaction that is recorded against that month.
You should remove or fix the incorrect transactions in MYOB. You can use the MYOB Company Data Auditor for AccountRight Live or the MYOB Company Data Auditor for AccountRight v19 to track down future dated transactions.
You can also remove the extra periods in Fathom by going to 'Step 1' of the company setup and clicking 'Remove Periods'.
I've switched/upgraded between AccountRight v19, AccountRight Live 2013+ Desktop and/or AccountRight Live 2013+ Cloud. Can I update my file in Fathom?
There are significant differences in implementation between these versions of AccountRight. Unfortunately we do not support upgrading your existing Fathom company once you have changed versions. The following process should assist:
- Rename your existing company to ensure it does not clash with the new company. Go to 'Step 2: Company Profile' in the company setup and add "_old" to the company name.
- Import the new company and use the 'Copy Settings' functionality to copy any tagging, KPIs, targets and alerts.
- Once you are satisifed with the new company, delete the old company.

What permissions does a user require to import from a MYOB AccountRight v19 desktop file?
The MYOB user used during an import must have full access to the MYOB file. You can check this in MYOB under 'Setup > Preferences > Security > User IDs'.
